KGE Professional German Oboe Reed (Medium)

I've been working my way round different reeds, having decided that you probably get what you pay for with oboe reeds. To date, this is the only one that I have repeatedly come back to as they seem to settle quickly and are good across the range. As always, some are better than others but still, I have found them more consistent than other brands. To put this in context, I am
nowhere near professional level, more Grade 8 level.

I normally buy the KGE Standard reed from Crook and Staple, but due to supply chain issues, I asked to upgrade to the KGE Professional. It seems to be a free-blowing reed but I've yet to play it properly.

Lovely fluid tone, good tuning, worked straight away.

I like these reeds as a daily reed that has no awkward areas, has very good intonation and is always reliable. It’s ready to go straight out of the box, feels a little too free-blowing to start with but by the second playing session always shapes up well. It lasts much longer than an average shop-bought reed - about three times longer, in my experience. Recommended.

I’m very happy with this reed - it didn’t take long to blow in and has a round, mellow tone.

This is wonderful reed which played freely and with a lovely dark tone

Needs little, if any adjustment. Great sound. Easy to blow.
